EinScan Pro HD Review
Improves the Efficiency of High-quality 3D Modeling
Today, we’re taking an in-depth look at Shining 3D’s brand new EinScan Pro HD, a hybrid handheld 3D scanner combining the speed, versatility, and precision of structured light scanning technology.
Shining3D, the company is one of the pioneers responsible for the ongoing innovation in the field of 3D scanning technology. Founded in 2004, the 3D scanner manufacturer has become a tour de force on the global high-tech market, expanding outward from its roots in China and gaining a hefty presence in both North America and Europe.
For the reference, this is our fourth Shining 3D scanner review, so we are familiar with the brand and are able to evaluate how the company and their product lineup have evolved over the years.

Shining 3D’s EinScan 3D scanner lineup from 2015 to 2021.
Review of EinScan Pro 2X Plus in 2019. This EinScan Pro HD is the eight product from the Einscan family, Shining 3D’s new EinScan Pro HD 3D scanner uses new lighting projection hardware and software algorithms. The new technology means the scanner is able to scan a wider range of objects of dark or black color and casting metal surface
A quick look at the EinScan Pro HD
Like the rest of the EinScan Pro series, the new EinScan Pro HD also comes equipped with multiple scan modes and alignments for different applications, including a Fixed Scan Mode, Handheld HD Scan Mode, and Handheld Rapid Scan Mode.

We conducted our review as usual, reviewing the hardware and software, and paid special attention to the three key features that Shining 3D highlights:
- Hybrid light sources
- Capacity to scan large objects
- Ability to capture dark and reflective surfaces
We tested the EinScan Pro HD on several subjects, including car engine bays. They’re the ideal use case scenario to test the EinScan Pro HD’s features, marketed by Shining 3D as particularly well-suited for automotive applications.
We also tried out a body scan for the challenge, which at the same time allowed us to assess the scanner’s color acquisition capabilities. Skin texture is known to be more nuanced and difficult to acquire compared to industrial product paints.
Here’s a quick recap of the good and the bad.
Pros
- Fast scan speed for high efficiency
- Very versatile — offers both handheld and fixed modes
- Software is very intuitive
- Excellent value for money
- Fast calibration and ease of use
- Hardware quality (materials, feel, weight balance, …)
Cons
- The software does take up a lot of computer power
- Currently not possible to merge scans from different modes
High resolution with fine details
By integrating a new strip light projection module, the strip pattern, which was previously only used in Fixed Scan Mode, can also be used in Handheld HD Scan Mode. The optimised algorithm enables a minimum point spacing of 0.2mm. This means that the resolution and accuracy are as good as with the fixed scan.
Modular design for more possibilities
The Color Pack and Industrial Pack can still be added as optional add-ons to EinScan Pro HD and support more versatile applications. Different alignment methods, feature alignment, marker alignment, turntable marker, manual alignment and texture alignment (with Color Pack) could enormously increase the efficiency of scanning without additional preparation.
The Color Pack takes the complete color and texture with geometry. Scanning efficiency is increased by texture alignment.
The Industrial Pack contains the turntable, which enables a static, automated scan with higher resolution.

Modular design for more possibilities.
