The car gearbox is one of the most important components in the car's transmission system, and it is expensive. Once the problem happens, the maintenance would be very high. Therefore, testing the gearbox before leaving the factory becomes more important. As a key step in the test process, the 3D inspection of the gearbox requires accurate 3D data, which requires professional 3D inspection equipment, and the OptimScan-5M 3D scanner can be easily handle it.


The following is a 3d inspection case of a car gearbox from one of our customers.

Customer demand: Customer need to inspect gearbox before it is ready to go on the market. The previous 3d inspection method has low working efficiency and wants to improve the working efficiency through the new detection method.

Difficulties in inspection: deep holes in the surface of the gearbox, too much details need to be captured.



Testing process:

Full-size scanning of the gearbox for 3D scan data. Scanning with the OptimScan-5M 3D scanner takes only 20 minutes to get full-size 3D data, and the scanned data can be displayed on the computer in real time.



Export scanned data to Geomagic Control X software to generate a test report. The data scanned by the OptimScan-5M 3D scanner and the original model data of the gearbox are imported into the control X detection software, and the test report is generated by comparing the data of the two, and the report time is only 10 minutes.

Testing results:

After the full-size scan test, all the assembly dimensions are obtained, except for the chamfered part (the red part in the test result data is the machining allowance for the chamfering process, so it will be different from the original digital model). Other parts fully meet the design requirements!



The 3D scan data of deep holes, details and other parts are obtained completely. The gearbox has many deep holes and many details. It is difficult for a general three-dimensional scanning device to obtain the three-dimensional data of the part. With the industrial blue high-precision three-dimensional scanner OptimScan-5M, complete full-size 3D scan data can be obtained. .

The detection time is very fast. It greatly improves the detection efficiency. The customer always uses the three-coordinate measurement method for detection. The detection time usually takes 1~2 days, which is very time consuming, and now it only takes 30 minutes to scan with the OptimScan-5M 3D scanner (scanning 20 minutes + detecting report for 10 minutes). The detection efficiency is directly increased by 96%.
